Tax software usually assumes you already think like an accountant. For most people, that assumption is where the product fails.

Start from the confusion, not the form

Building Salli meant starting from the questions real people actually ask — not the boxes on a government form. We mapped the local filing scenarios first, then designed a guided flow over a rules engine that could explain why each number was what it was.

AI where it reduces confusion

We added AI assistance only where it lowered the cognitive load — clarifying a term, catching a likely mistake — never where it added novelty for its own sake. Legibility was the whole product goal, and legibility is a design constraint, not a feature.
